2025 Oscar predictions: Checking in on the October state of the race

It’s already October, which means we’re a month closer to getting a much better idea of how this year’s Oscar race is shaping up for the winter.

While all you can really do is throw educated guesses as the Academy Award dartboard at this point, a lot of the contenders have screened at various festivals. Only a few big films, like A Complete Unknown, Gladiator II and Wicked have yet to formally screen for audiences.

We’re going to take a quick status check on how the Oscars are shaping up before going into more detail on these categories next month once we have a better idea of where things stand.

A very unconfident guess at the frontrunner is bolded in the nomination predictions. Remember, this is October. A lot can (and will) change.
