FORMER Wrexham captain Ben Tozer has named one player at the Racecourse who has “Premier League written all over him”.

Tozer, 34, spent three years with Wrexham helping guide the team to consecutive promotions.

The Welsh outfit secured their spot in League One next season with a spectacular campaign in League Two last term – finishing second.

And as they rise through the leagues they are always looking for players who can raise their standards too.

But Tozer, who made 131 appearances for the club, reckons Wrexham already have a star who could play at the top level.

Tozer named 21-year-old defender Max Cleworth as a player who could be good enough to play in the Premier League.

Cleworth has been on the books with the Red Dragons since he was just 13 years old and made his debut when he was 17.

Since then he has made 87 appearances for the Hollywood owned club, including 24 in the league last term to help push for promotion.

His time alongside Tozer has convinced the veteran centre-back that Cleworth has what it takes to reach the top.

Speaking on Fozcast with former Wrexham and England goalkeeper Ben Foster, he said: “I think Max has got Premier League written all over him.”

Before warning owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney that Cleworth could leave in pursuit of an opportunity in the top flight.

Adding: “It’s just whether he wants to go to the Premier League now and not play, because he’s realistically not going to start in the Premier League.

“He might [start], to be fair he might.

“Or does he stay with Wrexham go all the way up to the Premier League and possibly captain the club and go that route?

“He’s got the two routes. I don’t know if there is any offers for him in now, but I am pretty sure there would be.

“He’s got those two options at his disposal and he’s still 21!”

But Foster offered a calming voice to Wrexham’s superstar owners, suggesting that they would have the upper hand in negotiations if Cleworth did want to leave.

The ex-Watford shot-stopper said: “The thing is, Wrexham don’t need to sell.

“Say he has a three-year deal at Wrexham and a Premier League club comes in with a £5m – £10m offer.

“You wouldn’t be surprised if Wrexham said ‘no, we don’t need the money’ – It’s counter productive.”
