Preakness Stakes 2024: Updated odds as morning line favorite Muth scratched

After being forced to sit out the Kentucky Derby again this year, Bob Baffert had a serious contender to win the second jewel of the Triple Crown with Muth.

The colt who won the Arkansas Derby drew into the fourth position and opened up as the morning line betting favorite at 8-5. Now he’s the first horse out of the race. Baffert confirmed Muth scratched from Saturday’s 149th running of the Preakness Stakes after the horse developed a 103 degree fever shortly after arriving in Baltimore.

“We are sick about this. The horse had been doing really well,” Baffert told reporters. “But we have to do what’s right by the horse.”
