Postgame video showed a classy exchange between Donovan Mitchell and Ja Morant's father

The Memphis Grizzlies may have been sent packing by the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night in the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs, but Ja Morant’s father has already found a new team to root for. In the aftermath of the Jazz’s 126-110 win over the Grizzlies in Game 5, Morant’s father — Tee Morant — was seen giving an incredibly classy and passionate speech to Donovan Mitchell.

In the exchange, captured by ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Morant told Mitchell that he’d be rooting for the Jazz to win the rest of the way in the playoffs due to the way the team responded to fans making racist remarks against the Morant family earlier on in the series. During Game 2 of the series, three Jazz fans were removed from the arena after making racist taunts against Ja Morant’s parents in the crowd.

The Jazz also banned the three fans from Vivint Arena indefinitely for the altercation.

Here are Tee Morant’s comments in full to Mitchell after the game:

I’m going for y’all right now. Why? Y’all didn’t have to do that, y’all didn’t have to show love to us like that. This is what I’m saying. When [expletive] goes bad and then you reach out, that’s how you bridge the gap. Most people don’t realize that. That’s why I appreciate you and that’s why I hope the Jazz win the championship.

Hey, keep killing it, my guy!

The two shared a hug after the exchange as well, capping off the short but wonderful moment between the two. That, right there, is what sports are all about, and props again to the Jazz for doing the right thing for the Morant family.
