GAME ESSENTIALS: 49ers (4-6) vs. Rams (7-3) at SoFi Stadium on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. (PT). TV: FOX-TV, Announcers: Chris Myers (play-by-play), Greg Jennings (analyst), Jennifer Hale (reporter).

ODDS: Rams -7. OVER/UNDER: 44.5.

SERIES: 49ers lead 72-67-3. LAST MEETING: 49ers won 24-16 at Levi’s on Oct. 18, 2020.

WHY 49ERS COULD WIN: Kyle Shanahan has been able to design ways to beat the Rams the past three times, including in October. And, coming off a bye week, one would expect the 49ers coach to come up with some different wrinkles as he sends his short-handed troops into SoFi Stadium for the first time. … The 49ers, who are due for some good news on the injury front, should be getting back their two most dangerous offensive players in running back Raheem Mostert (ankle) and receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring). In addition, cornerback Richard Sherman (lower calf), who hasn’t played since the season-opening loss against Arizona, could return Sunday. He’s listed as questionable.

WHY RAMS COULD WIN: Los Angeles is coming off impressive post-bye victories over Seattle and Tampa Bay and is now facing its first opponent with a losing record in nearly two months. … The Rams’ defense has been resurgent and is not the league’s top-rated unit while giving up just 291.9 yards per game. The Rams baffled Tom Brady in a 27-24 win over Tampa Bay last Monday night while picking off the six-time Super Bowl champ two times. … The Rams have also been boosted by some standout play from ex-Cal standout Jared Goff, who has passed for a total of 678 yards the past two weeks. … In defensive tackle Aaron Donald, the 49ers are not only facing the league’s most disruptive lineman, but he’s especially motivated after not recording a tackle the past two weeks. This past week he’s criticized the lack of holding calls against those trying to block him, which means he’ll probably get a call or two this week.

49ERS NEXT GAME: vs. Bills at Levi’s Stadium on Monday, Dec. 7 at 5:15 p.m. (PT).
