Chicago Bears Bring In A Notable Name For A Tryout

The Chicago Bears haven’t made a move of any kind on the free agent market lately. That could start to change as teams begin tinkering with their rosters closer to the regular season. The Chicago Bears have already been trying out a number of players. This is often done by a team that wants to get updated files on available players. This way they know who is in good shape and ready for a phone call if and when the situation demands it.

One interesting name they met with this week according to Albert Breer is linebacker Alec Ogletree. Most football fans remember him as the former 1st round pick of the Rams back in 2013. One who had 100 or more tackles in three of his first four seasons. Bears fans though will remember him as the guy who had a pick-six of Chase Daniel back in 2018. A play that set the tone for the New York Giants shocking the Bears in overtime.

His time there came to an end after last season and now the 29-year old is looking for a new home. Could Chicago be that place?

Chicago Bears may not like their depth situation

It’s important to remember the Bears lost their two primary backup inside linebacker this offseason in Nick Kwiatkoski and Kevin Pierre-Louis. Right now they have three guys behind Danny Trevathan and Roquan Smith. They are Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Josh Woods, and rookie Rashad Smith. Of those three, only Smith has created any sort of positive buzz.

One must also note the Bears carried six inside linebackers on the main roster last season. They currently have just five. So adding an experienced player like Ogletree as that #3 guy on the depth chart would be a wise move. Especially given the health histories of Trevathan and Roquan. Then again it could just be an evaluation to get up-to-date information. The next 24-48 hours will tell the story.
