WATCH: Le'Veon Bell has 'no regrets' on signing with Jets over 49ers in offseason

0 5

Running back Le’Veon Bell went to the highest bidder in the offseason after his holdout in 2018 with his career-long team, the Steelers. Now with the 1-4 Jets instead of the other last team, Bell considered, the 5-0 49ers, Bell says he has “no regrets.”

Bell told Sports Illustrated in March that the decision on which team to join came down to the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers, who he said offered him a three-year, $40 million contract.

Instead, the 27-year-old took a four year deal with the Jets getting $52.5 million, $35 million of that guaranteed.

Talking to The Athletic this week, the three-time Pro Bowl player explained that unexpected parts of the game — like losing a starting and a backup quarterback in consecutive weeks — are just part of the game.

“No regrets,” Bell said in the interview with Gary Myers. “You can’t predict Sam (Darnold) getting sick or guys getting hurt. We have a lot of injuries. It’s been a rough start. In football, there are four quarters in a game. The beautiful thing about the NFL season is it’s like four quarters. We just finished the first quarter.

“It’s not about how you start a season, it’s how you finish it. I’m excited we got our quarterback back, guys are starting to click, the offensive line is starting to click better. Guys understand the offense a little better.”

Darnold’s return to the lineup helped the Jets to their first win of the season Sunday, 24-22 versus the Cowboys (3-3). Next up, Bell and the Jets face the only undefeated team other than the 49ers — the Patriots (6-0).

Bell himself has struggled this season, averaging just 3.0 yards per carry on 85 attempts. He might be headed in the direction he hopes his team is after finishing the first quarter of the season after scoring his first TD of the season in the win versus Dallas.
