Archie Sharp leaves Declan Geraghty needing oxygen after devastating KO in super-featherweight clash

DECLAN GERAGHTY needed emergency medical assistance after he was brutally knocked out by an Archie Sharp howitzer.

The super-featherweight pair had been contesting an ugly contest up until the savage one-punch demolition of the Irishman in the fourth round.

Geraghty had been dominating the early exchanges, even showboating when Sharp was failing to land.

The Welling man had been mentioning Geraghty’s suspect chin throughout the spicy build-up and he was proven spot-on with his sensational left-hand finish.

With blood pouring from the heads of both men following a clumsy clash, Geraghty lunged in and the Sharpshooter countered with an earth-shuttering left hook to Geraghty’s chin.

The Dublin man’s shot at Sharp’s WBO European title was ended almost instantly as referee Howard Foster only got to a count of two before demanding the medics rush in.

Geraghty eventually found his way up onto a stool and was given oxygen in the ring before walking to a relieved cheer.

Sharp said after his win: “I’ve been visualising that from the day this fight got mentioned.

“I’m a great mind master and that was something I’ve been working on for ages and that was a shot I’ve been working on it was just a matter of time to land it.

“Fair play to Declan he had a lot of work in there for the first couple of rounds I was down on the scorecards.

“But it’s about patience and being mature and not looking for it.

“It’s a great result a great finish and I made a good statement he’s a very good fighter.

“It’s a ten round fight I’m a more mature fighter and I started hunting him down.

“There’s loads in there I had to adapt but that’s what makes you a great fighter, it’s about being a naturally talented fighter and adapting to what is in front of me.

“I did say they’ve underestimated my power, I’m slowly building and slowly growing.

“Jamel Herring has been mentioning my name I’d be a fool not to pursue that.

“I could be WBO world champion and come back and defend it against all the domestic opponents as the WBO belt would be in the UK.”
