Biographies and other non-fiction
Hey fellow readers,
I've been consuming books all my life and have really gotten into biographies, gonzo journalism, and other nonfiction ever since I picked up "The Dirt - Confessions of the world's most notorious rock band" about a decade ago.
Although I was not a fan of Mötley Crüe per se, Neil Strauss is one of my favorite writers and the book provided a fascinating look into debauch. It was worth the read just for the chapter dedicated to Ozzy Osbourne, which if I remember correctly begins as follows:
"We were degenerates. The lowest common denominator. We thought we had elevated animal behavior to an art form. But then we met Ozzy."
I just finished Mike Tyson's Iron Ambition - My life with Cus d'Amato yesterday. Pretty good, but nowhere near Mike Tyson - The Undisputed Truth.
I am now looking for my next read/listen. This is where I need your help. I'm out of inspiration.
Here are my favorites in the genre:
Ozzy Osbourne - I am Ozzy (Read in public at your own risk... My wife told me they were gonna throw me off the plane if I kept laughing.)
Howard Stern - Private Parts (The book the movie was based on. Not a huge fan of the guy but his success is undeniable.)
The Undisputed Truth (audio) - Mike Tyson (Really, really good. More than 21 hours of material. The narrator has a slight lisp which just adds to the charm.)
Marilyn Manson - The Long Hard Road out of Hell (Neil Strauss.. enough said.)
The Death of WCW - 10 year anniversary (A look into one of the most epic clusterfucks of all time. Should have been called: "How to burn through money".).
Hell's Angels - Hunter S. Thompson (God I miss this guy.)
Why we suck - Dennis Leary (Well-written and funny.)
I’d love to get my hands on a band (Rock, Metal or Punk) fighter (MMA, Boxing or even pro wrestling) or comic biography, but I'm open to anything (fiction, graphic novels, self-help, etc.).
Feel free to post your favorites.
Happy holidays to you and yours.
Here’s wishing you all health and happiness.
