Attorney: ‘No accuracy’ to rumors of Conor McGregor plea deal

Conor McGregor is scheduled to appear in court July 26.

The official word on Conor McGregor’s legal problems is that there is no update on his legal proceedings in regards to his ongoing case in the state of New York.

TMZ reported earlier this week that McGregor and his team had struck a plea deal with prosecutors that will allow him to stay stateside and avoid any potential jail time in connection to the charges stemming from his involvement in a chaotic incident that occurred backstage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn at a media event for UFC 223 back on April 5.

On Sunday, the fighter’s representatives released a statement to MMA Fighting shooting down the plea rumors.

“There is no accuracy to recent tabloid reports speculating about a potential plea for Conor McGregor,” spokesperson Karen Kessler wrote in a statement for Cozen O’Connor, McGregor’s attorney. “We do not, and will not comment on any discussions we may or may not be having with the DA’s office.”

Footage from the Barclays Center incident show McGregor and several other acquaintances running wild through the loading area where fighters were waiting to be transported from the venue, and McGregor hurling a dolly at a bus carrying several UFC fighters. The dolly smashed a window resulting in injuries to Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg.

McGregor is being charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief. Associate Cian Cowley is being charged with one count of assault and one count of criminal mischief.

McGregor’s next Brooklyn court appearance is scheduled for July 26.
