VIENNA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed on Saturday after two avalanches struck western Austria's Salzburg region, local media reported.
The first avalanche were reported shortly after noon at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the Bad Hofgastein area. One person was buried and killed in open alpine terrain, according to the Austrian broadcaster ORF.
