[Softball] Lady Knights Softball splits with Belmont Abbey
BELMONT, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Softball team finished up their regular season on Saturday by splitting a pair of non-conference games with Div. II Belmont Abbey College on Saturday.
Game One: SAU 6, Belmont Abbey 4
Freshman reliever S.K. Brown (FR/Huntersville, NC) started game one for the Knights and tossed three shutout innings allowing just 3 hits to lower her team-leading ERA to 3.44 before freshman P Brennan Broadaway (FR/Oakboro, NC) (7-10) came on to relieve her in the 4th inning and throw three innings herself but allowed 6 hits and 4 runs on 2 walks. She, however, still came out with the victory as SAU scored 4 runs in the 4th and one each in the 3rd and 5th innings to lead 6-4. Sophomore reliever Nancy Amos (SO/Huntersville, NC) then came on for the 7th and closed the game out with a scoreless frame to pick up her fourth save on the year.
SAU struck first on a Sam Lowder (JR/Stanfield, NC) RBI single in the third inning before Broadaway began the 4th with a solo home run, her first of the year. A Mekayla Valentine (SR/Danville, VA) RBI single then made it 3-0 before senior Brooke Sikes (SR/Warrenton, NC) drove in a run on a fielder's choice. A bases-loaded walk to sophomore OF Rachel Swartwood (SO/Wilmington, NC) then drove in the 4th run of the frame. A two-run homer by BAC in the 4th then cut the lead to 5-2. SAU then added an insurance run on a RBI groundout in the fifth from Valentine that scored senior Kori Ballard (SR/Richmond Hill, SC), who had singled.
SAU had seven different players record a hit while five drove in runs. Ballard led with the only multi-hit game while Broadaway still leads the team with 35 RBIs while hitting .369.
