Teen convicted of murdering another teen in 2022 Opelousas shooting
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A teenager was convicted of murdering another teenager in Opelousas in 2022, authorities said.
Da'Qualon Joseph Robinson of Opelousas was found guilty Thursday of second degree murder and obstruction of justice in the 27th Judicial District Court.
Robinson, who was 15 at the time, was convicted of killing 15-year-old Kentravion George on Nov. 2, 2022.
Prosecutors said George and and a friend were walking two girls home in the 800 block of North Main Street in Opelousas, when a car rolled up and shots rang out. George was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
"This was such a needless tragedy," said St. Landry District Attorney Chad Pitre. "A fifteen-year-old lost his life and a fifteen-year-old committed murder on our streets."
Second degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison at hard labor. Convicts who were under the age of 18 at the time of the crime are eligible for parole after 25 years.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 4.
