Man sentenced to prison in Halfmoon shooting case
HALFMOON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A man has been sentenced in connection to a shooting in Halfmoon. The Saratoga County District Attorney's Office said Justin Wagner, 26, of Schenectady, was sentenced to 16 years in state prison.
Wagner pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in March. He previously admitted to driving to Halfmoon on January 4 with an AR15-style rifle to confront the victim over a personal issue. Wagner then allegedly fired at the man multiple times, hitting him in the hand and lower leg. Wagner reportedly built the AR15 in his Schenectady apartment.
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office responded to the shooting and applied two tourniquets on the victim before taking him to Albany Medical Center. Wagner fled, but was soon located and arrested, said the DA's Office.
Wagner was also ordered to serve two and a half years of probation after he is released from prison. A stay-away order of protection was issued for the victim until 2049.
