FORT GREENE, Brooklyn (PIX11) --- A Brooklyn man is accused of shooting a neighbor with a crossbow after catching the man smoking in the stairwell of their apartment building early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

Joseph English, 64, allegedly threatened to kill his 56-year-old neighbor before shooting the man in the left hip in the Hanson Place building in Fort Greene at 4:40 a.m., according to the NYPD and criminal complaint.

"I'm gonna shoot you. I will kill you," English yelled at the man after seeing him smoking in the stairwell, according to the complaint and police.

The arrow punctured the man's hip and caused significant pain and bleeding, authorities said. The victim was treated at the scene for his injury.

English was arrested outside the building on 67 Hanson Place less than an hour later, cops said. He was charged with assault, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing.

English was arraigned on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released without bail.

His attorney could not immediately be reached on Thursday.
