Teen dies from injuries in July 4 Albany shooting
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany Police confirmed that a 17-year-old hospitalized in a shooting on July 4 died from their injuries on Thursday night. The teen's name was not released due to their age.
The shooting, the second of three such incidents that occurred on July 4 in Albany, took place just after 10 p.m. on Madison Avenue near Swan Street. Police stated that two minors having a dispute in the area allegedly exchanged weapon fire, with one using a handgun and the other using a flare gun.
Four people in the vicinity were struck by bullets from the handgun, critically injuring the teen who died on July 17, as well as injuring a 62-year-old, a 24-year-old, and another 17-year-old. Detectives determined that the projectile from the flare gun reportedly caused a fire at an apartment complex on Madison Avenue.
Albany Police announced last week that two 15-year-olds were arrested in connection to the shooting on July 9 and 10 respectively. Both face numerous charges, including second-degree attempted murder.
