Man involved in South Glens Falls shooting charged for domestic assault

KINGSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Kingsbury man that was injured in an officer-involved shooting in South Glens Falls has been arrested for alleged domestic assault. Billy Cassell III, 45, faces multiple charges.

  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Third-degree assault
  • Second-degree menacing

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Cassell displayed a knife and caused physical injury to a woman that was under an order of protection against him. Cassell was arrested by the Washington County Sheriff's Office on a warrant for this incident while residing in Saratoga County Jail.

The suspect is currently in Saratoga County Jail for an incident involving State Police on April 23. Troopers were originally looking for him due to the arrest warrant related to this domestic incident.

Cassell allegedly tried to elude State Police in a vehicle while they were looking for him before he crashed the vehicle into a home located at the intersection of State Route 9 and Catherine Street. According to law enforcement, Cassell raised a shotgun at State Police instead of dropping the it when instructed to do so, causing a trooper to fire at him three times.

Troopers said Cassell sustained a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and was transported to Albany Medical Center before being arrested. He will continue to be held in Saratoga County Jail.
