Schenectady man pleads not guilty in Albany shooting
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Schenectady man pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Albany County Court on Tuesday. The Albany County District Attorney's Office said Mohammed Zaher, 30, allegedly participated in a shooting on New Scotland Avenue last June.
Zaher is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence. The DA's office said that witness statements and video evidence allege that on June 1, around 6:30 p.m., Zaher pulled an assault rifle from a car parked in front of CVS on New Scotland Avenue after a verbal argument turned physical.
The DA's office also said Zaher is accused of dropping a loaded and illegal magazine with 24 rounds. A man from the fight was shot in the chest by another person whom the Albany Police Department is still searching for. If convicted, Zaher faces a possible sentence of up to 11 years in prison.
