3 convicted, sentenced in Ellenville apartment complex shooting
KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Three Ellenville residents pleaded guilty and were sentenced for their involvement in a 2024 shooting at the Canal Locks Apartment Complex in Ellenville. According to the Ulster County District Attorney's Office, Luis Gonzalez Lopez, 31, Shaquon McGinnis, 27, and Nathaniel Negron, 29, admitted to entering an apartment and shooting a man.
According to the DA's Office, on March 8, 2024, three masked men entered the Canal Locks Apartment Complex armed with a loaded firearm and knife. They reportedly knocked on a door and forced their way into the apartment, shooting a man in the arm and then fleeing the scene.
The Ellenville Police later identified the three men as the defendants. They were arrested within two weeks of the shooting and have been held at the Ulster County Jail.
In August 2024, an Ulster County Grand Jury indicted the three men on burglary in the first degree charges. All three men pleaded guilty to the charges and on March 25, they were sentenced.
Negron sentence:
- 10 years in prison and five years of probation
McGinnis sentence:
- Eight years in prison and five years of probation
Lopez sentence:
- Six years in prison and five years of probation
According to the DA's Office, an order of protection was issued to all three men for the victim.
"The people of Ellenville deserve to be safe on the streets and in their homes from violent criminals and knuckleheads," District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji said. "Such acts of gun violence threaten everyone and destabilize the community. This Office will do everything legally permissible and work with the Ellenville PD and other law enforcement agencies for a safer Ellenville."
This case was prosecuted by General Felonies Bureau Chief Cindy Murphy. The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, Ulster County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, the City of Kingston Police Department and Ellenville Police.
