Troy man accused of September shooting arrested, pleads not guilty
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Police Department has arrested a man accused of shooting another person outside Eldorado Bar last September. Police said Shateik J. Merritt, 40, of Troy, is facing multiple charges.
Police were called to the 4th Street bar on September 29 for a reported shooting and found a person who was seriously injured. Police added that the suspect had fled the scene before they arrived.
Merritt was identified as the suspect after interviews in an investigative partnership with the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center. Police said the partnership came after exhausting all leads in the case.
A grand jury in Rensselaer County issued an indictment warrant in November 2024, and police learned Merritt had fled the Capital Region. The United States Marshall Service's Regional Fugitive Task Force took Merritt into custody in New Jersey on March 14. Troy Police traveled to New Jersey on March 21, taking Merritt into custody for arraignment in Rensselaer County Court.
Charges
- Second-degree attempted murder
- First-degree assault
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
During his arraignment on Tuesday, Merritt pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was remanded to Rensselaer County Jail without bail.
