'The Voice' winner hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself
(WJW) — "The Voice" winner Jason "Sundance" Head is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach on Friday, the singer's wife Misty announced on social media.
According to a Facebook post, Sundance was out hunting by himself on his Texas ranch when the accident occurred.
"It was not his hunting rifle and no, nobody shot him," the post said, in part. "He was out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his .22. When he grabbed it, the .22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off."
His wife said she received a call from paramedics, who told her Sundance was life-flighted to the hospital and would need immediate surgery.
In an update, though, Misty said the "doctor just called me, bullet went in above his navel and lodged into his abdominal wall, missing all vital organs. He will not require surgery as they are not removing the bullet."
She said Sundance was in good spirits when she arrived at the hospital shortly after.
Misty shared another positive update on Saturday, saying her husband was released from the hospital and returned home late Friday night. She shared a photo of his shirt, pointing out how lucky he is to be alive.
"Any higher or lower would have been devastating," the post said. "I can’t express how grateful we are for all the messages, calls and prayers."
A part of country star Blake Shelton's team at the time, the Houston native won season 11 of "The Voice" in 2016.
