OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A man has been arrested and accused of shooting into a crowd after the Opelousas High School homecoming football game, authorities said.

Jaquincy Johnson, 20, is charged with illegal use of weapons and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.

Opelousas Police responded Nov. 8 to a large crowd of several hundred people gathered in the parking lot of a local business on Creswell Lane shortly after the conclusion of the homecoming football game. As officers worked to disperse the crowd, gunfire erupted. While no one was injured, officers found spent shell casings.

Surveillance footage from nearby businesses showed a man firing into the crowd before fleeing toward the Circle K gas station, where he hid until officers departed the area. The suspect was identified as Johnson, and officers obtained an arrest warrant for his involvement in the shooting.

On Friday, officers responded to a disturbance at the Circle K gas station on Creswell Lane, where they recognized and apprehended Johnson without incident, officials said.

Upon his arrest, Johnson was found to be in possession of a handgun with an extended magazine, which was later determined to be a reported stolen firearm. Johnson was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail.

Bond details were not released.

The Opelousas Police Department urges anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
