Police make an arrest in recent Troy shooting

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Troy Police made an arrest connected to a shooting at a home on 6th Avenue in Lansingburgh on Wednesday. Police said Jason P. Carter, 22, of Troy, was arrested for allegedly shooting a 24-year-old woman when he fired several rounds into the home.

Police said the victim remains in critical condition at Albany Medical Center on Thursday. Through an investigation and speaking to witnesses, police said they executed a search warrant for a home on Williams Street in Troy and arrested Carter.

Carter was arraigned in Troy City Court Thursday morning and was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the shooting can call Troy Police Detectives at (518) 270-4421 or submit tips on the police department's website.

Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello said Carter's arrest is a testament to the city's commitment to keeping the community safe and won't stand by idly people recklessly endanger the residents and the Troy community. "If you commit a crime, we will find you, and we will arrest you," she said.

Police Chief Dan DeWolf said the shooting saddens the department, and their thoughts are with the family as the victim recovers. "This unnecessary and selfish act of violence has no place in our community and will not be tolerated," he said.
