Identities revealed in VSP trooper-involved shooting

ORANGE, Vt. (NEWS10) -- Vermont State Police released the names of the trooper and person killed in an officer-involved shooting in Northern Vermont.

Vermont State Police said Trooper Adam Roaldi was conducting a welfare check on Wednesday at a home on Spencer Road in the town of Orange when he found 41-year-old Jason Lowery, of Vermont, unconscious in a car in the driveway of the home. Police said a sawed-off shotgun was also in the vehicle.

Lowery regained consciousness on his own, and the two men allegedly fought over the gun. Trooper Roaldi fired his service weapon, and Lowery was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lowery’s cause of death was determined to be gunshot wounds to the neck and torso. His death was ruled a homicide.

The incident was captured on the trooper's body worn camera, and Trooper Roaldi was placed on paid leave. The shooting is under investigation. VSP are also trying to determine why Lowery was in the driveway.
