Man identified 3 years after fatal Brooklyn shooting: NYPD

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) --- The death of a man who was killed in a car in Brooklyn three years ago has been deemed a homicide, authorities said Thursday.

Romel Jules, then 21, was shot in the upper back while sitting in the passenger side of a Volkswagen Jetta near Nostrand Avenue and Montgomery Street in Crown Heights just before 1 a.m. on April 25, 2021, according to sources and then NYPD.

Jules was rushed to the hospital in critical condition at the time, police said. Jules, 24, died earlier this month.

The medical examiner's offices recently declared the incident a homicide and issued a death certificate, police said.

In July 2021, Maurice Williams was arrested and charged with murder, assault, and criminal use of a firearm in connection to the incident, according to the NYPD. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder and will be sentenced next month, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.
