New Iberia residents concerned about safety after apparent shooting
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- In New Iberia, people are concerned about their safety after they say a shooting took place Monday night. The apparent shooting took place near the 600 block of Breaux Alley in New Iberia, and residents are wondering exactly what is being done to stop the crime and violence from continuing in the community.
"A lot of people are scared to talk about what's going on because they're scared of retaliation," one resident said.
Sources told News 10 multiple people were injured in the incident. The resident said a lot of activity goes on at the house and a situation like this was eventually going to happen.
"They were just shooting over like 100 rounds," one resident said. "My family's there, so they had to hit the floor."
The resident said this incident is just one of the many examples of violence happening in the city. She believes the only way to solve the issues with violence in the community is to take action.
"If we put the neighbor back in hood and stop saying that this is the hood and look at our neighbors as brothers and sisters and get more love back in the community then that's what we need," the resident said.
News 10 has reached out to the New Iberia City Police multiple times over the past few days for details but have not received any information as of news time.
