[Women's Basketball] Lacy Collects First KCAC Player of the Week Honors

0 9

WICHITA, Kan. — Friends University junior guard Carrie Lacy has been named KCAC Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week after an outstanding week, the league announced Monday (Jan. 17).

A native of Victoria, Texas, Lacy averaged 22.7 points per game on 52.1 percent shooting from the field while leading the short-handed Falcons to a pair of road wins.

"Carrie had to pick up a huge load this week as our team was depleted due to Covid, and she was more than up to the task," head coach Dean Jaderston said. "She averaged 33 minutes a game during our three games and led us to two wins on the road over teams receiving votes in the national poll."

Lacy got the week started with a 19 point performance, missing just two shots as the Falcons knocked off Kansas Wesleyan in Salina.

She then followed that with a career-high 30 points, three assists, and a pair of offensive rebounds in the overtime win over (RV) Avila in Kansas City. Her night included a clutch and one with 21 seconds left to send the game into extra time.

Lacy wrapped up her week with 19 points, including a pair of threes in the loss to Bethany College at home.

"Her competitiveness was on full display as she made big shot after big shot and handled the ball against pressure all week," Jaderston said.

The Falcons travel to North Newton Wednesday (Jan. 10) to take on Bethel College before returning to the Garvey Center for an early week matchup against York next Monday (Jan. 24).
