The women's basketball program at Shawnee State took a nine-point lead over the opening 10 minutes of action and led for more than three quarters worth of playing time in a Mid-South Conference contest against Pikeville, but SSU was outscored by a 29-20 margin in the fourth-quarter and a 61-47 count over the final three stanzas in a 67-62 loss to UPike on Thursday evening at the Applachian Wireless Center in Pikeville.
In the defeat, Shawnee State held Pikeville to a 32.9 percent shooting mark for the affair and forced UPike into a 21.4 percent mark from distance, but were outrebounded by a 46-40 margin, allowed 22 offensive rebounds and turned the ball over 19 times in the contest.
