Warriors sign Damion Lee to a three-year deal

There’s a lot of non-guaranteed money on the sharpshooter’s new contract.

The Golden State Warriors have officially signed shooting guard Damion Lee to a three-year deal.

News of the deal was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, who reported that the deal was partially guaranteed.

Golden State then announced the move - sans contract details - on Wednesday morning.

Despite being a three-year deal, there isn’t much money guaranteed in the contract. The first year of the deal is the remainder of this season, fully guaranteed. It will pay Lee a little south of $1 million. Next year is partially guaranteed, with the team only owing Lee a guaranteed $600,000, roughly a third of what the contract would end up as if he stays on the roster.

The third and final year of the deal, for the 2021-22 season, is non-guaranteed.

That’s a very team friendly deal, considering how well Lee played this year while on a two-way contract. Golden State is likely quite thrilled to know they can keep Lee around for such a modest price, with no obligation to keep him if he doesn’t perform.

Lee hasn’t played since Friday, as the team held off on finalizing his contract to keep them as far under the hard cap as possible. But with his contract officially signed, you can expect to see him back in the lineup on Thursday, when the Warriors play the Denver Nuggets.
