Mum faces life in jail after being found guilty of shooting dead boy, 18, ‘who raped six-year-old daughter’
A MUM is facing life in jail after being found guilty of murdering a teenager accused of raping her six-year-old daughter.
Connie Serbu, 43, has been convicted of second-degree murder following the death of Xavier Sierra, 18, who was shot dead in 2016 after being lured into an isolated area.
During the week-long trial in Florida, prosecutors said Serbu wanted “revenge” after she was told her daughter had been touched by a babysitter.
Serbu is said to have plotted the murder for months and to have told her husband she was “going to do something” in May 2016 after discovering the alleged sex attack.
‘EASY MONEY’
The rape is said to have taken place in 2011, when Serbu’s daughter was six and Sierra was 12 or 13, according to Naples Daily News.
In the lead up to the murder, Serbu reportedly contacted Sierra in June saying she needed help building a bunk bed and that the job would be “easy money”.
A week later, her developmentally disabled brother, John Vargas, arrived for a visit and the pair went to a local shop to buy a flip phone and a Verizon rechargeable card in separate cash transactions.
‘EASILY PERSUADED’
The court heard that Vargas was someone who could be “easily persuaded”.
Using the phone, Serbu confirmed with Sierra that he would help her build the bunk bed on July 7.
On the day of the murder, Serbu and Vargas picked Sierra up from a job interview at an animal clinic, then quizzed him about the alleged rape while driving.
On arriving at the kill site, Serbu and her brother John Vargas, 29, who had left the house in dark clothing, head covers and duct-taped shoes, chased Sierra down when he tried to escape.
On them, they had two handguns, two stun guns, an ice pick and a potato – used to silence the gun.
Sierra and Vargas later wrestled over the two handguns, resulting in Sierra being shot by both weapons and Vargas receiving one fatal bullet wound to the abdomen.
FATAL SHOT
Both men ended up dying of those injuries shortly afterwards. Serbu was still at the scene when police arrived, according to the Naples Daily News.
Cops said she later made a remorseless confession to the crime.
She said: “It’s all my fault. So I don’t care, he raped my daughter … she told me everything that happened.”

Serbu also allegedly warned her spouse that he would end up raising their children alone.
She reportedly told friends what she was plotting, prompting them to beg her to go to the police instead.
Serbu is now facing life in jail, and will be sentenced on January 3.
