Ex-49er Colin Kaepernick included on blame list of Ohio lawmaker after Dayton shooting

An elected official in Ohio is being called on to resign after she blamed several groups, perceived societal ills, and former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick for two mass shootings over the weekend that killed 29.

Ohio GOP Chairwoman Jane Timken has called for Republican state representative Candice Keller to resign.

Keller identified Kaepernick without naming him. In 2016, the one-time 49er popularized the kneeling, silent protest during the national anthem at NFL games. Kaepernick and other NFL players protested to raise awareness of social injustice. Kaepernick has not played in the NFL in two seasons.

Keller’s blame list — which Timken called “shocking and utterly unjustifiable”– was posted to her Facebook page.

Her post came hours after a gunman killed nine people, including his sister, and injured more than two dozen in Dayton. The shooter was killed by law enforcement  officers. Keller represents the 53rd district, about 25 miles south of Dayton. On Saturday, a gunman in El Paso killed 22 people in a WalMart. He was taken into custody.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones also called for Keller’s resignation after her charged Facebook post in the wake of the mass shooting in Dayton early Sunday morning. “Those people aren’t even buried yet and she came out with these comments,” Jones said, according to WHIO-7. “She doesn’t represent our party. She doesn’t represent any party.”

In addition, WHIO-7 reported that Keller has been has advised to stay at home because of threats she has received.
