Three policemen have been arrested over the fatal shooting of one Kolade Johnson in Lagos on Sunday, March 31.

It all happened when a police patrol van packed somewhere in the Mangoro area of the state, in search of a suspect as Johnson was watching a football match with other viewers on Sunday evening, Premium Times reports.

Eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity reveal that the policemen suspected he was a criminal and shot him because he had dreadlocks. It was gathered that the officers arrested not less than 12 young men with similar hairstyles.

Concerning the development, a top police official who revealed the number of officers involved in the raid might be more than three, said: “Three police officers have been arrested now in Lagos for the trouble they have caused the man’s family and Nigeria as a whole.

“An orderly room trial will be conducted against the officers, and, if found guilty, they will be summarily discharged from the police and charged to court for murder,” the officer said.

“We have learnt at the Force Headquarters that the officers might be more than three, and we have given the police commissioner in Lagos a strict instruction to make sure that all those involved are identified, and punished, no matter their ranks.”
