Why Draymond Green’s shooting woes hurt Warriors more than you might think
In the summer of 2013, Travis Walton flew to Oakland with a singular purpose: Help his friend and former Michigan State teammate, Warriors forward Draymond Green, round out his game.
Tinkering with Green’s jumper was toward the top of Walton’s to-do list. As a rookie in 2012-13, Green had shot just 32.7 percent from the field and 20.9 percent from three-point range.
Today, Green credits Walton for helping him blossom from pudgy reserve to three-time NBA All-Star. And the work is far from over. Walton, who has stayed in the Bay Area this season and travels on some of Golden State’s trips, takes Green through daily shooting drills before practices and shootarounds.
However, the extra work has yet to translate to games.
