[Men's Basketball] Mitch Vickers signs with ONU Men's Basketball

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Mitch Vickers, from Streator Township High School, is the newest member of the Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball 2018 recruiting class. Head coach Ralph Hodge and the Tigers are pleased to add the six-foot one-inch, shooting guard from Streator, Illinois.

Following a great senior season, Vickers was voted an Insterstate-8 unanimous First Team All-Conference selection. He also was named Times Press First Team All-Area and WCMY Radio All-Area MVP. Mitch was named to the Plano Christmas Classic All-Tournament Team and was voted by his teammates as team MVP. He also earned Interstate-8 All-Academic All-Conference honors his sophomore through senior years.

Mitch led the Bulldogs this season to a 19-9 record. He averaged 15.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals. He shot 43.0 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from the three-point line and 81.7 percent from the free-throws line. Against Putnam County, he scored a career-high 29 points, had four blocks and three stelas. Following his senior season he was selected to play in the Interstate-8 vs. Little 10 Conference All-Star Game.

Vickers made this comment on his decision to play at ONU. "ONU provided the curriculum I wanted, it was close to family, I like the small-school atmosphere, the Christian values it provides, and I can continue playing basketball."

In addition to playing basketball, Vickers also played soccer and baseball all four years. He was named Interstate-8 All-Conference First Team, Times Press First Team All-Area, Streator's Offensive Player of the Year and Co-MVP his senior season. He earned Interstate-8 All-Academic All-Conference honors his junior and seniors years for baseball and soccer.

Vickers plans on studying Engineering while at Olivet. He was named an Illinois State Scholar in 2018, is a member of the National Honor Society and German Club. Mitch and his brother, Mac, sister, Marisa, father, Rodney, and mother, Jennifer, attend St. Mary's of the Fields in Grand Ridge, Illinois.
