[Men's Basketball] Knights' basketball can't hang with Allen

COLUMBIA, SC - The St. Andrews University men's basketball team dropped their rescheduled conference game at Allen University (S.C.) on Monday evening falling 108-52.

Allen got off to a strong shooting start in the first half running out to a 12-4 lead before SAU cut it to five. That would be as close as the Knights would come as Allen continued to stretch out the lead by getting rebounds and making their threes as they went up 56-31 at the break shooting a remarkable 72 percent from the field while SAU shot 36 percent.

The second half featured more scoring from Allen with the Jackets outscoring the Knights 52-21 by shooting 67 percent and holding SAU to 28 percent from the field and just 1 of 12 from three.

Allen ended up shooting 69.8 percent for the game while the Knights shot 31 percent overall and just 18 percent from three. However, SAU forced 15 Allen turnovers while recording five steals.

SAU was led by a career high of 20 points from freshman guard Devonte Pettaway (FR/Greenville, NC) on 7 of 14 shooting while adding two rebounds and two steals.

Junior guard Andrew Rodriguez (JR/San Juan, Puerto Rico) then added 7 points with two steals while fellow guard, senior Ben Twigger (SR/Concord, NC) scored 7 points with two rebounds and a block. Senior guard Jourdan Sanders (SR/Raleigh, NC) also tallied 7 points on 3 of 5 shooting with an assist and a steal.

Combining for eight points and five rebounds were forwards Jeremias Easterling (JR/La Plata, Argentina) and Jean Calvin Ahoume while junior point guard Christian Lathan (JR/Fayetteville, NC) led with two assists and two rebounds in the defeat.

SAU falls to 1-9 on the season and 1-8 in the conference with the loss while third place Allen improves to 12-3 overall and 6-3 in the AAC.

St. Andrews will next remain on the road for the long trip to West Point, GA to battle Point University on Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM in a rematch of SAU's season-opening win.
