Warriors vs. Nuggets, Final Score: Steph Curry leads Golden State to a 124-114 win over Denver

Despite Nikola Jokic getting a triple-double, Stephen Curry remained in human torch mode and scored 32 points to lead the Warriors to a win.

The last time the Golden State Warriors faced off against the Denver Nuggets, they couldn’t buy a bucket as they ended up shooting 3-for-27 from three-pointer range in a losing effort.

But they didn’t have Stephen Curry last time around and tonight was a very different story with him in the lineup as the Warriors walked away with a 124-114 win.

Curry continued his blistering hot-streak, scoring 32 points on 5-of-10 shooting from three-point land and 9-of-17 overall.

Jokic was highly impressive for the Nuggets as he’d record a triple-double with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists.

The Warriors start the game on fire

Scoring came easy for the Warriors in the first half of the game, with shots dropping in at the rate of the current Bay Area rainfall.

Klay Thompson had a heavy hand in that, as he looked more than intent on redeeming his off-night in the Warriors’ previous game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He would chip in 12 points in the first half on 5-for-8 shooting while going 2-for-3 from 3-point range.

Curry and Draymond Green would round out the majority of the team’s offensive output in the first half, scoring 13 and 12 respectively. The Warriors would close the first half with 64 points and a 7-point lead.

The Nuggets played quite well to keep pace and looked very intent on staying in the game, scoring 57 points on a hair-shy of 50% shooting. Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Gary Harris lead the charge for their team combining for 34 points.

Curry’s quick scare

Curry would have to leave the game after the first quarter after a hard fall on an inadvertent foul from Malik Beasley trying to block him on a fast break.

Luckily he would end up returning to the game after being diagnosed with a minor left knee strain.

There’s no doubt that the coaching staff would have kept him out if they thought it to be serious. But it’s something to keep an eye on after this game as a possible lingering issue, especially because he was listed on the pre-game injury report as already having soreness in that same knee.

Curry owns the third quarter again

The third quarter saw the Warriors’ lead get chewed through as the Nuggets and Jokic refused to let them break away. They would finally even the score and essentially reset the game.

But Curry pulled out all the stops again to almost single-handedly rebuild a double digit lead for the Warriors, scoring 13 points in the quarter with three 3-pointers — including another one of those patented “deeper than your drum-circle poetry slam” treys.

The Nuggets make it a game in the closing minutes

David West, Omri Casspi, Shaun Livingston and Nick Young all contributed timely scoring and defense in the final quarter to maintain the double-digit lead the Warriors had built before the stars came back into the game.

Unfortunately, shots began to have trouble finding the bottom of the net for us while the Nuggets warmed up at the right time. This, coupled with some mental mistakes by the Warriors down the stretch, culminated with Denver going on a 18-6 run to cut the lead back down to single digits with a minute and a half left to go.

But Golden State made enough plays in the final minute to seal the win.
