An exploration of global wind systems (trade winds, westerlies) and major ocean currents (Gulf Stream, Benguela, Agulhas), explaining their characteristics and the forces that drive them. Rainer has been sailing every year since 1976 for several weeks, frequently as skipper. Most of his sailing experience has been in the Mediterranean, but he has also sailed in the Baltic, North Sea, Irish Sea, Atlantic (both European and North American coasts as well as trips across the Atlantic) and on the West Coast of North America.
