Brown and Brown Winter League concludes
The Brown and Brown Insurance Winter League came to an end last Sunday and with it the RCYC racing season for 2025.
This non-spin league was held over 6 weeks and while we lost one day to no wind, we were treated to five incredible days of racing. Thanks to our race officers for the series, Tom McGrath and Sean Hanley who did a fantastic job.
Before racing last Sunday, the fleet were treated to bacon baps teas and coffees, cooked to perfection in wat was the final act of this keelboat committee. Thanks to Durcan’s meats for their support.
On the final day of racing, Class 1 was all but sown up by Ria Lyden’s Ellida but the battle was on for 2nd and third. In the end Pat Tanner was the daily winner and came 3rd in the league, Fiona Young was 2nd in North Star but Ria finished the job in style, taking the Irish Mist, Archie O’Leary memorial Trophy.
In class 2 it was a similar situation with Seamus Gilroy’s Dufour 34, Split Point in a commanding position coming into the final day of racing. It was all to play for though for 2nd and 3rd with 2nd to 5th only one point behind each other. In the end, Split Point came out on top, Caoimhe & Cillian Foster were 2nd on Clodagh and in third place, Eric Lisson’s Holly Blue.
Thanks again to our sponsors and to Sally O’Leary for preparing the fantastic hampers 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed boats received.
