RNLI Regatta

0 3

Round 2 of the Grafham TT series – the RNLI Regatta – served up a strikingly familiar forecast to Round 1’s Past Masters Trophy: strong winds, big gusts, and some serious test of seamanship. Fortunately, the slightly warmer air and water temperatures offered a bit more comfort – but not by much!

With a streamlined duty crew and a fleet of 12 keen entries, the race officer made some smart adjustments to keep things moving efficiently. The sailing instructions were tweaked for a single start sequence and the use of club marks, avoiding the need to lay additional inflatables. Sensibly, given the sustained 20+ knot breeze, all three races were kept to around 30 minutes each – short, sharp, and challenging.Capsizes were plentiful, even among the front-runners, but a determined fleet saw a good number of sailors finishing all three races.

After handicap calculations, the clear winner was William Swann in an ILCA 4, taking two bullets and a second place. John Elder sailed consistently to take second overall in an ILCA 6, while Jamie Morgan rounded out the podium in third with his ILCA 7.A big well done to all competitors for some tight racing and true grit in tough conditions! The third event in the Grafham TT series, the DoE Club Championship will be held on Sunday 28th September.
