Irish Sailing Inshore Racing Crew Safety Training course a huge success!

0 10

Last Saturday at the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Sail Cork held the very first session of a new training course for Irish Sailors, “Irish Sailing Inshore Racing Crew Safety Training”. This course was designed specifically for Racing Crew and Skippers and including a wide range of topics including: planning to go afloat, briefing, regulatory requirements, personal flotation, harness lines, calling for help, emergency planning, helicopter rescue and MOB. Saturday’s session was shore based, and included a mix of theory and practical training. The second session which will be held in May will be on the water training and will put the theory into practice!
We were delighted not only to have Eddie English and Peter Scanlon from Sail Cork delivering the training, but we also had the Irish Sailing training Manager, Dave Garvey in attendance for this pilot session. This course is certified by Irish Sailing and those who complete both sessions will be awarded with the “Irish Sailing Crew Safety Certificate”. The course was oversubscribed this time around and if we have sufficient interest we will run the training again in the future.
