A breezy Autumn Keelboat series concludes
Last Sunday saw the final day of the 2024 Autumn Series, kindly sponsored by AIB Bank and John Paul Construction. It was one of the freshest events in years with 2 days lost due to weather.
Once again the Keelboat committee and the Admiral served bacon baps to the fleet before racing, thanks to Durcan meats for their support!
Fed and watered, the nearly 40 boat fleet took to the start at White Bay and the final two races of the series were completed in a fresh SW breeze. Race Officer, Anthony O’Leary and his team of Sally O’Leary and Eddie English gave us two fantastic races and a superb end to the series.
Once ashore, we were treated to live music and complimentary food to feed the faithful before they put their Jazz hats on!
Congratulations to all of the winners, Non-Spin 2 IRC was won by Kieran Collins and Barry Rose with a combined racing experience of 152 years aboard Folkboat “If”! What an achievement! Non-Spin 2 IHS was won by KYC’s Alan Mulcahy, who has had success in the past ten years of the Autumn Series.
Non-Spin 1 IHS was won by Frank Caul and John Molloy aboard Prince of Tides and Ian Hickeys Cavatina took top spot in Non-Spin 1 IRC.
In the Spinnaker fleets, KYC’s Reavra Too took 1st place in Class 2 Echo and Mike McCann’s Etchells, Don’t Dilly Dally brought it home in Class 2 IRC.
Class 1 was dominated by the Admiral’s Garand Soleil, Nieulargo, winning both Echo and IRC.
Thanks to everyone who made this league a success, our race Officers, Anthony O’Leary and his team and Ciaran and Ruth McSweeney. A special thanks to the keelboat racing committee and Mike McCann who do so much work in the background. As always well done to the Ann, Amy and all the staff who look after us so well and to Bob and Mary for their photos.
