Crosshaven RNLI Station welcomes Royal Cork Dinghy Coaches

On Friday, Oct 11th, the station provided a briefing and tour of the RNLI station in Crosshaven to the coaches of Royal Cork Yacht Club. The RNLI team of Patsy Fegan, Daryl Hughes, Hugh Mockler, James Fegan, Ian Venner and Susanne Deane gave a detailed overview of how the lifeboat is engaged, activated and launched from the station with an amazing forty one active volunteers between shore crew, operations and boat crew.

The coaches also had a chance to see the lifeboat itself and get a detailed operations understanding of the lifeboat capabilities. It really is an amazing piece of equipment with directional detection equipment that can pick up VHF signals and allow the lifeboat to find very small craft in the densest fog or darkest night. The coaches and RNLI crew had an interactive question and answer session that provided excellent assurances that the sailors under the care of the coaches can rely on the lifeboat throughout the winter season and all year round. The winter sailing programs have kicked in for Optimist, Laser, 420, mixed dinghies and there is plenty of activity in the harbour already. Having the RNLI ready to help out in any unlucky incident is an amazing asset to the town of Crosshaven and indeed to their coverage area from power head to Robert’s Cove.
Many thanks to the volunteers who gave their time for the overview and tour. Photos can be seen here
