August Mystery Harbor: Plymouth Harbor

0 2

Plymouth Harbor. Photo by Dan Raycroft

I knew that view as soon as I saw it! I live in Middleboro, Mass., and have rowed in Plymouth Harbor with my husband Peter in our 18’ dory. We have also walked out on the jetty many times, and have experienced the same view as the photo in the August issue of Points East. I looked for the Mayflower 2, but it must be just out of the picture to the right, or gone for maintenance. Our daughter and granddaughter live in Plymouth, so we have spent time there, and have seen the harbor from all angles. I’m sending this note from our catboat, in Marion, Mass., where we picked up the August issue at Barden’s Boat Yard. We look forward to reading Points East every month. Keep up the good work!

Used to deliver a boat there

I recognized the view of the Plymouth Rock (Pilgrim Memorial State Park) from the approach to the marina where I used to deliver a Tartan sailboat to its winter home on the hard. I also used to work in Plymouth, and would frequently walk around the harbor. Very nice town filled with Pilgrim and Native American history, interesting shops, great dining and outstanding waterfront/harbor.

A little bit of everything

It’s Plymouth Harbor. Not many harbors in New England have a famous portico that can be seen from the water. Great place to visit – albeit a long ride in through a narrow channel. A welcoming yacht club, walkable town, and lots of pubs and restaurants! They’ve got it all.

Was there on the 4th

The Mystery Harbor in the August issue is Plymouth, Mass. We cruised our Salona 33, Virgo, there this past July 4th weekend. It was pea soup fog all the way from Scituate to Plymouth – the first time I’ve ever used our air horn to communicate with other boaters. You can see the bizarre little monument in the distance that houses a remnant of what is alleged to be Plymouth Rock.
