A busy weekend for keelboat racing at the Royal Cork

0 6

On Thursday night we had a  fresh breeze for week 2 of the RCYC Summer Series June/July league. Almost 10 boats crossed the start line in a fantastic course provided by RO, Barry Rose. On the night Michael McCann won Spin IRC in “Don’t Dilly Dally”, with Sean Hanly’s “LUAS”  winning in Spin Echo. In White Sail, Ian Hickey’s “Cavatina” did the double by winning  in Echo WS & IRC.

Friday night saw the 2nd night of the Cork Harbour Combined League. We were treated to a beautiful Westerly breeze, 14-18 knots and blue skies. Once again there was a fantastic turnout with over 20 boats racing! Annamarie and Denis Murphy came 1st in Spin Echo on “Nieulargo” with Fiona Young winning Spin IRC on “North Star”.

In the White Sail division the McGrath family came 1st in “Big Mc” and Paul O Shea’s “Elegance” bringing it home in ECHO. The prizegiving for the Cork Harbour Combined League will be held on the final night, 28th June in Cobh.

Friday night was also week 2 of the Friday night IHS league, On the night Sean Hanley came 3rd in “Luas”, with Brendan Egans 1918 Classic “Boekanier” coming 2nd. The Foster family’s “Clodagh” won the night, finishing in 1st place.

On Sunday we had a fantastic showing for our second Sunday race of the season! Six boats took to the start and conditions were light and shifty, however, we had a fantastic 3hr race.

Let’s keep the momentum going and we hope to see as many keelboats on the water this week!

As always, huge thanks to our RO’s over the weekend; Peter Crowley, Barry Rose and Mike Mc Cann! Well done to all our daily prize winners and thanks to Anne, Amy and their teams for looking after so well after racing.

See you next week.
