Fantastic turnout for the 1st week of the Keelboat Summer racing series!

0 10

The Royal Cork Yacht Club keelboat racing season kicked off last Thursday and Friday, the start of the May league, with a fantastic turnout of 11 boats on Thursday and an amazing 13 boats on Friday. What a great start to the season!
The conditions on Thursday were perfect for the 1st night, a great opportunity for most to shake out their sails for the season ahead. Fiona Young’s “North Star” took 1st place in IRC Spin, with Ria Lyden’s “Ellida” winning in IRC Echo. The White Sail class was dominated by the McGrath family’s “Big Mac”, taking 1st place in Echo and IRC.

On Friday night conditions were a little more benign. Unfortunately, the wind all but died halfway through, however,  over half the fleet managed to finish the race. Congratulations to Ronan Twomey on “Rosmarina” for winning on the night.

Well done to all skippers and crew and our daily prize winners, hopefully we’ll see the numbers grow every week! A big shout out to  Anne, Amy and their team back ashore for looking after us so well and of course, to our race management teams, none of us would be racing without their experience, knowledge, dedication and sense of volunteerism.
