ILCA dinghy sailors enjoy Nationals at Tralee Bay SC
Team RCYC had 14 sailors compete at the ILCA National Championships over 4 days at the Tralee Bay Sailing Club in Fenit, Co. Kerry.

Race officer John Leech got 3 fast races in on day one in 15 to 20 knot winds. Fenit in Irish means ‘wild place’ and assuming that this refers to the weather then it really did live up to its name as day two was cancelled due to high wind. Day 3 went ahead with a warning to all sailors only to launch if 100% happy to do so as the winds were 20 to 25 knots. Day 4 was a complete reversal with very light wind that suited some but not others, with all fleets going right down to the final race.
A HalSail malfunction meant prizegiving was delayed as all results were recalculated using historical screenshots.
RCYC sailors called to the podium were: Isabel Mc Carthy 3rd ILCA4, Maeve Leonard 2nd ILCA4, Robert Jeffreys 1st Master in ILCA6, Michael Crosbie 4th ILCA6, Nick Walsh 2nd ILCA7.
ILCA4 was won by Hannah Daddly Young (Ballyholme). ILCA6 Fiachra Mc Donnell (RStGYC) and ILCA7 Dan O Connell.
For the 2nd year running Team RCYC were awarded the team prize as calculated as the club with the most best placed sailors at the event.
Up next for RCYC ILCA is Inniscarra for the 2nd of the Tri-series sprints on Sunday the 4th of September.
