[Men's Volleyball] Men's Volleyball Competes in Campbellsville Invitational

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The St. Andrews men's volleyball team traveled to Kentucky this weekend to compete in the Campbellsville University Invitational, which consisted of four teams.

 

SAU 3 CCU 0

The Knights kicked off the tournament with a smooth sailing win over Cincinnati Christian in three sets. Ben Twigger (SR/Concord, NC) led St. Andrews in their first match with a career high of 9 kills and hitting an impressive .667. Senior Edgar Huerta (SR/Salinas, CA) closely trailed Twigger, logging 8 kills and hitting for .500 percent. Sophomore Daryn Friedman (SO/Pembroke Pines, FL) dominated in serves, collecting 6 service aces against the Eagles.

 

MBU 3 SAU 0

Saturday's play for the Knights began with a tough match against fourth in the nation, Missouri Baptist. The Knights were out-scored in three straight sets with scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-9. St. Andrews was led by Edgar Huerta with 10 kills and 2 service aces. The Spartans of Missouri Baptist hit for a team total of .460 percent compared to the Knights .042.

 

CU 3 SAU 1

St. Andrews finished the tournament with a match against the host school, Campbellsville University. The Knights took the first set, 25-21, but unfortunately could not top the Tigers in the following 3 sets (25-19,25-19,29-27).

 

Diego Hernandez (SO/San Juan, Puerto Rico) had a stellar match collecting 17 of the teams 34 kills. Hernandez recorded 9 service aces and 3 digs. Jacob DeSouza (JR/Quail Valley, CA) led the Knights in digs, tallying 14.

 

The Knights will next be in action on February 8th against Cumberland University at 5:00 pm.
