Pintle removal on old Sunfish

have old sunfish with old style pintle and gudgeon for rudder connection. Used to be able to slip pintle in and out easily, but it is now stuck. Got the slip washer off the pintle, but can not move pintle out of slots. Everything moves freely , no rust/ Any thoughts?l
