Best sunfish boom position

I'm a recent sunfish owner learning the rig.
I see some set-ups have the boom level/parallel to the deck while others set with the tack almost touching the deck and the clew two feet off the deck. Are there advantages to one arrangement over the other. A parallel boom would allow a line of site under the boom. My sail has no window.

Also does a lateen rig point higher on one tack that the other considering the side of the mast the boom is on?
