470 Vanguard jib hayard tensioning / magic box doesn't work / replace

I have a 470 that I bought a few years ago and just getting around to rigging it and have foungd the magic box doesn't works becuase the hayard wire is too long so I removed the box. So I was looking a a pulley system and thought a boom vang like I pictured might work. I thought I could attach it to the vail where the existing boom vang is attached to. I only have about 14 inches of distance. So any ideas much appreciated as what to do. I have only sailed a Force Five sailboat not much...
